Review 6/26/2010

I have never experienced the level of chicanery that Care Credit employs. We opened our account May 10th, 2010 for our dog's knee surgery. Near the end of May, I made an early payment online (the only way you can make a payment without a fee) only to discover that the payment was never processed despite the confirmation e-mail they sent. I was locked out of my online account and had to call two different numbers to re-gain access. After attempting to make another payment (still well before the due date), I discovered the problem. After clicking the required "checking account" box on the payment page, the web-site changed the numbers I entered in the Routing and Account information lines. Of course the payment was unsuccessful due to the “invalid account number”. The company had the audacity to charge me a $39.99 returned check fee after their website sabotaged my payment efforts. When I called them I was transferred three times and had to explain my story to each person I talked to. Each time my story fell upon apathetic ears. After my call was finally transferred to the appropriate person, the call was conveniently disconnected. When I called back, the customer service representative “Angel” ironically was extremely rude. The charge was reversed but only after hearing numerous times how much of an idiot I was for not realizing the numbers had spontaneously changed before hitting submit (all except the last 4 digits were x-ed out). The charge was reversed three days later. I tried to pay the balance off immediately over the phone. My options were to pay the full amount including the $39.99 returned check fee and wait for them to send me a credit or pay a $15 fee to pay the balance minus the $39.99 over the phone. We cleared out our savings, skimped on other bills, and will be eating Ramen the rest of the month, but we paid off the card in full via the website. We simply couldn't afford to play their game of cat and mouse any more. These antics are unbelievable. I expect credit card companies to be shifty but this is ridiculous. If I had tried to make a payment closer to the actual due date, my account would have been in arrears and I would have been charged 23% interest because of their beguiling web-site. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. On a positive note, my dog is doing great!
