Celestron has repaired my Nexstar 8SE twice (unrelated problems) under warranty. Customer service was polite and helpful and located in California. In both cases the repair was completed on time or sooner. The tech did a complete check on the mount's functionality before sending it back.
For those complaining about after warranty service it is time to face up to the good and bad of moving production to China. The good is lower price. The bad is that telescopes are now disposable commodities like a cheap MP3 player.
Better and longer support means higher sales prices--no way around it. Moving production back to California without going bankrupt? The three previous owners couldn't figure that one out.
