I contacted Central Coast Appliance to service my KitchenAid built-in oven (a referral from KitchenAid). On the phone, I was given the price for a service call, but told not to worry, that that cost would be applied to my repair. I interpreted this, as in other service-related experiences, to mean that if I went with this business to complete the repair, the cost of the service call would be included in the labor. Instead, when I requested a break-out of the estimate I received (cuz it seemed high to me), first I was told they didn't normally provide a break-out, then when it was provided, the service call fee was in addition to the cost of the labor to fix the oven. After speaking with different folks in their office, it was clear they weren't budging from their position. When I called a final time thinking I might just eat the cost and proceed with having them complete the repair, I spoke with someone different who had obviously been made aware of me and was nasty but firm that their position was final. I agreed to pay their service fee, but did not want to do any additional business with them.
I called A&E, a competitor, who agreed to make a service call, and without me saying a word, said the cost of the service call included the cost of my repair...whether they had the part needed on the first trip or had to come back at another time. This is what I've always experienced and what I expected.
