Certified Installer??
|
Bought windows from large, large, window manufacturing company. Contacted window manufacturer first, placed my order, was told in order to buy their windows I needed to use their certified installer, Mr. Hunter, for installs, or I could not purchase windows as he was their dealer as well, apparently. I could have had them installed by several companies I knew in the trade, but felt with warranty taken into consideration, it would be better to pay more, use their certified installer, so if anything happened, I would be covered. NOT SO I LEARNED, I have had major, major leaking over covered front door, all sides of the house, flooding in basement, ceiling starting to cave, mold issues I presume, and the list goes on. Mr. Hunter would not return my calls until I got manufacturer involved. He finally showed up several years later, noticed and spoke about how damage was so bad and how sorry he was. He stated he and his son in law would be back to repair all damage, and there was alot, in two weeks. Although Mr Hunter was Paid, I never received basement window replacement (6 basement windows) and basement door and casing replacement. This is to enter the once useable apartment we had down in basement area. Tnis all flooded due to my wi dow installs. He never showed up or answered or returned my calls. Played it long enough so statutes of limitations makes it almost impossible to sue him. Called Mass AG's office for mediations. Only question he asked AG was, when will statutes of limitations be over. He was never on the job, only there to collect money. His lifetime, or as long as you live in house, warranty is not true. If his firm installs your windows you have none based upon my experience dealing with this "certified i staller". I have suffered over $130,000 worth of damage for what should have cost me less than $25k finished and completed. I have pictures and video to prove all damages. My recommendation is to NOT use this person or his company for any work on your home. You can contact me if you care to see any and all evidence. This one person has reduced the value of my home by $150-$200 thousand dollars. No worries though.... he got paid ...and window manufacturer, whose windows are still under warranty (another joke). For what I am warrantied for, I am not sure as I don't see any window warranty from my perspective since issues arose. After Window Company (a very well known near start of alphabet) sent a Technician to inspect, an insurance claim was filed and received a month later by mail to me. With no inspection done, with exception of their Tech prior to claim being filed by window manufaturer's insurance company, the claim was denied. Window company did not want to hear anything about their "Certified Installer". Use this installer and expect issues. In actuality, these two i dustries support each other and I feel that any warranty I re eived is and was as worthless as the paper it was written on. Do your ho e work, read all warranties, manufacturers do not cover for any real period of time their certified installers work. Took 2 1/2 years for my problems to start. Have had to replace large section of sill, which supports our home, oddly enough right under one of the large custom windows installed. Good Luck, you will need it!
